My Justice League review

To begin, I’d like to say I wish DC would have delayed the release of this movie, until maybe another one or two solo origin films had been released to create a build up like… (unpopular opinion among most DC fans.) Marvel.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying DC movies have to be like Marvel movies. I think each franchise should have its own style. (Dark vs ‘family friends’.)
But, I like the idea of reintroducing these characters to a new generation as well. Show people their back stories, and get them invested.
Personally, I didn’t even know that much about Wonder Woman’s back story until a couple of years ago, and I had always been a fan of her cartoon incarnation in Justice League (Unlimited.)
It was cool to learn more about her origins and the mythology behind it in the DCEU (in the comic verse she was brought to life by Aphrodite vs Zeus.)
Nevertheless, DCEU made a brilliant move creating this movie, especially since a live action theatrical Wonder Woman project had been in demand for how long?
The movie made me love her character so much more. And got me invested in the DCEU version of WW.
My point is this, yes these are iconic characters, and will be around for generations to come. Nevertheless, their stories need to be told and retold to get, and to keep fans invested, and to continue to attract more fans as well.
Stylistically speaking Dark vs family friendly, that isn’t the point. Using this kind of formula, is just  good storytelling, which can be used in any format of an on-going franchise.
DC should have put more time into building their universe up in steps, like Marvel, who created layer upon layer of characters, lore/mythology; all connected through exciting events via their cinematic, cable and Netflix platforms. By doing this, they got fans massively invested, and their box office numbers have proven that for the last decade consistently.

They could even take notes from their own televisions shows, which have been build up very well, and then used in cross overs that have been well received by fans.
DC has a lot of great characters to choose from, I would have liked to see Aquaman’s movie before JL for instance, not after. Or a Martian Man Hunter movie.
• The Best parts of the JL movie in my opinion; Wonder Woman <3 haha. Aquaman and Superman. The battles were awesome!
The weak point; The plot was good, but felt a little rushed? This could be a product of the studio cutting the movie down from 3hr to under 2r. But, regardless, the plot is enjoyable for what is it.

My thoughts on the League:

Wonder Woman: Perfection. I enjoyed the role she played in the movie. It was nice to see her DCEU incarnation grow more into a leadership role. I thought the aspects of the WW movie they touched down upon were good, like what happened with Steve. I also loved her action scenes. She kicks so much ass! I love her lasso attacks best.

Batman: I think Ben is a good Batman. I really liked the design used for the batsuit in this movie.
I think he did a good job, given the material in the movie.  I think it's hard in certain moments for me to take Batman seriously when he is standing up beside heroes like WW and Superman. Granted Batman is supposed to be the brain in the operation vs the muscle here, but I even find that hard to believe when the team consists of Cyborg, a living computer, and WW, who is 100+ years old.

Aquaman: I was happy with Jason in the movie, I thought he delivered a great blend of humor and action.  I thought his powers looked pretty awesome in the movie.
He was probably one of the more useful characters in the battles. I can’t wait for the solo Aquaman film in 2019.

Cyborg: Not much to say.  I’ve never been a huge Cyborg fan, even in Teen Titans I found him to be a bit dull, but I thought his story was pretty interesting in this movie.

The Flash: I prefer the tv version ... Eh.. This actor did a good job with the given material. His jokes were hit and miss at times. I guess over all, I was just surprised he was so socially awkward?
Dunno. I’d watch a solo Flash film, given a good enough script. I’d just have to get more used to that incarnation.

Superman: As usual, Henry delivered 100% as the man of steel. I enjoyed his screen time a lot in the movie.  I liked Man of Steel a lot, and I'm looking forward to another solo film from Superman.

I belong to various DC&Marvel fan pages on fb, and I guess I’ll give my thoughts on the complaints/debates I’ve seen most among fans.

Superman’s CGI lip: I honestly didn’t see what the big deal was? When they first show him, you notice it a bit, but over all the rest of the shots looked perfectly fine.

(The pic below for example does look a bit off, but it's just a really odd still of a scene.)

(However, most of the shots, like in the pic below actually looked fine. So, if you ask me, the bad shots are the exception, not the rule.)

Steppenwolf CGI:  I don’t see the issue. It looked like CGI, but it wasn’t terrible CGI. The textures looked good, and the way his face emoted looked fine as well. I didn’t have an issue with it.
My question about this character is the stark difference in his appearance in general from the source material.  How do you go from handsome man with goatee to alien burn victim?

Oh no, It’s Joss Whedon, and he is telling us jokes! (smh): I thought the movie had a good blend of action, darkness and humor. I can’t even imagine what they movie would have been like without the light humor that was placed through out the story. For me, these moments add a ‘human’ element to these iconic, god like characters. It makes them relatable, to give them these moments, and makes me care about them more.

I  don't have anything against the creative style of Zack Synder. Although, I'm not sure why so many fans do nothing but praise him, when his vision of the DCEU hasn't been the most well received or successful.   And why hate on Joss Whedon? The man is extremely talented as a writer, producer and director.   I'm not sure why so many fans were freaking out, thinking he was going to turn a DC movie into a Marvel movie. Ridiculous
.
If you ask me though, there is one director that is actually deserving of praise by the DCEU universe; Patty Jenkins. She is after all, the director who gave the DCEU its first real win in the box office, and with fans and critics alike, with her Wonder Woman origins movie.

Perhaps fans,  who praise Synder should expand their thinking. The DCEU has benefited  from the vision of another director besides him, and with very successful results.

Amazon fashion: Alright.. I saw people complaining about some of the amazon’s showing their mid-drifts, because the armor in the WW movie showed little skin. Well, if you watch the movie, the main characters, like Hippolyta, are still in FULL gear.

It’s only a few extras around them that have their bellies showing, and even then, it wasn’t the majority of the women. Granted it isn’t practical for ANY of them to have that kind of gear as a warrior, but considering the genre, are we really that surprised?

My conclusion/rating:
Score: 3/5

The movie was good, and  I enjoyed it a lot.
It does suffer from some small issues in my opinion, that are a product of a shorter run time than what the movie needed to tell a full story.  I honestly think an extra 15-13mins of run time could have made a huge difference with this movie. Even if they didn't make more solo films, the extra run time could have helped to flush out the characters more.

I wonder if the DVD release will include extra cut scenes?

I'll definitely be checking out anything DCEU/Justice League related in the future.
Fans need to stop paying attention to critics and just think for themselves..

Thanks for reading my review..

The Chosen Warriors of Avalon series

Book One: Cursed Blood

(Book excerpt from Cursed Blood.)

Memories of the man’s death burst to life in Jasper’s mind, and his skin burned where Vincent had touched him.
“NO! We are not brothers!” Jasper protested through gritted teeth.
“But we are brothers, born again through death and connected by an ancient and powerful blood. I know that you have felt it, tasted it,” Vincent said with an insane smile. “We are chosen.”
“What do you want from me?” Jasper asked sorrowfully. He just wanted to wake up and forget everything he had seen, but knew, even in his waking life, there would be no escape.
“It’s not about what I want,” Vincent replied, as he looked into Jasper’s eyes and finished drawing a crimson rune on his forehead. “But what you must do for her. Let the blood guide you, my brother, and you will understand everything.”
A high wall of blood rose from behind Vincent, and quickly rushed forward like a tidal wave of death. Vincent stood up tall now and laughed a wicked laugh as he threw his arms out to his sides and tossed his head back, waiting to be taken.
Horrific faces of the dead began to form in the crimson liquid, as their voices cried out for help. At first it was softly, but then they suddenly released an intense sea of deafening screams.
“NO!” Jasper yelled as he was engulfed by the bloody wall of faces. A bright, red light suddenly flashed, momentarily blinding him. When he finally managed to open his eyes again, it was all over.
Jasper lifted one hand to his face and rubbed his damp forehead, where Vincent had traced the rune with blood. The skin in the spot where it had been drawn still felt warm and lightly tingled.
Jasper sat up in his bed and let out a deep sigh, then stood up at the side of his bed in his boxer briefs. He walked over to his window as thoughts of his nightmare raced through his mind.
Moonlight streamed in through the fabric of his bedroom curtains and danced across his bare skin, as Jasper gripped the curtains and closed his eyes for a moment.
“What the hell?” he spoke aloud in disbelief, then tugged at the curtains, parting them more and glanced up into the sky at the moon, as thoughts and images of his nightmares continued to plague his memory.
Jasper glanced down at one of his tattoos on his hand and couldn’t forget what Vincent had told him — that the blood would guide him to the truth.
